ANGLO-SAXON
c.500 AD - 1066 (Norman conquest)
Once thought to have only built in wood, there are several examples of pre-conquest stone buildings in England. These are characterised by long and short quoins (large corner stones), double triangular windows, herringbone patterns, narrow rounded openings and reuse of roman stone.
The tomb slab in the south porch is said to date from the Anglo-Saxon period.
