BOTELER
In the nave is a slab to Richard Boteler (died 1st jan 1457), and his wife, Matilda (died 6th aug 1456). Kelly's Directories Ltd Kelly's directory of Lincolnshire (1909, 7th ed. Princeton University)
There are record of a Matilda Le Boteler born in Lincoln in 1225, although the family seems to lose touch with Lincoln after this.
However, the Butler family (a spelling variation of Boteler) has a presence in Howell during the C16th. Margaret was widow to Sir Anthony Butler of Coates (d. 1578), later married Sir Charles Dymok and their tomb is located in the north chapel. Margaret and Anthony had five sons.
Anthony Butler was the son of Humphrey Butler and Agnes Fitzwilliam, the Fitzwilliam family was in turn related to the Dymoks through the Hebden line.
