FONT
A font was an important feature in the church. It was designed to hold water used during a baptism, one of the seven sacraments of Catholicism, and retained in the Anglican religion. It acts an infant’s welcome into the church and marks the start of their spiritual life.
The Howell font is an octagonal stone structure, perpendicular in style, with a lead bowel, located in the south end of the church. It was given to Howell Church in the C14th by Richard de Hebden (Cox, 1916).

The font is decorated with the shields of the Hebden, Rye and Luttrell families, who were interconnected by marriage.
